NFL Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning decisive three-pointer to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Performance Wins Contest
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 total net yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with approximately five minutes left.
Record Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to score a potential victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn stated after the game.
